Our Goal   These are children who have suffered broken relationships. Some have been abandoned, neglected, or abused. Some are so poor that their family cannot care for them. They are taken to the Orphanage for food, shelter, or protection. Even with a parent or parents who love them when separated they will feel anxiety, sadness, fear, or rejection. Some have only one parent, usually a mother, and suffer a range of emotions only the fatherless would understand. Others have had guardians with very low moral standard, and have been exposed to horrific situations, and have therefore been placed at Casa Hogar Douglas. Very few are physical orphans with no living parent. But any child in any country who is deprived of family with active and loving parents is an orphan indeed. Our Spiritual goal for these children has always been the same. It is to bring more people into their life who can demonstrate loyalty and commitment. Someone who will be there for them. Many of us come from large extended families which extend even into the churches we belong to. As such we know that we have someone who will always love us no matter when, where, or who we become. It must be an utter feeling of loneliness to look to a future and realize that you are on your own. Some cannot fathom this feeling for we have never been there. God himself did not presume to 'know' how we feel. He sent his son that he might be "touched with the feeling of our infirmities". If God himself did not presume to know the inner despair of our hearts then we cannot presume to know how it feels to be a rejected child in a poor land. With God's help we will prevail.
